Eastern Sierras, California Activities Manzanar War Relocation Camp and the Eastern California Museum During World War II, innocent Americans of Japanese decent called Nisei were imprisoned at the Manzanar War Relocation Camp. Today, a monument called the “Tower of Memory” stands as a symbol for the entire Manzanar experience. Nearby Eastern California Museum displays numerous interesting collections, including renowned photographer Ansel Adam’s “Born Free and Equal,” a collection of photographs of everyday life in the camp.
